Produced by world-leading scientists at the Natural History Museum, the Biodiversity Intactness Index (BII) measures how much of an area's original biodiversity remains relative to a natural baseline.
BII is already used by governments, researchers and commercial organisations seeking evidence-based approaches to biodiversity measurement and nature-positive action.Unlike many biodiversity indicators, BII provides a globally comparable, scientifically robust measure that can be used consistently across different geographies.
For the first time, the Natural History Museum is making country-level BII values available for commercial use. This product provides access to nationally aggregated BII values that can be used to understand biodiversity status across countries and support nature-related analysis and decision-making.
The Natural History Museum also offers BII products and services at finer geographic scales for organisations requiring more detailed biodiversity insights.
